The United States FBI helped to run a training exercise for 50 Nigeria investigators and prosecutors to enhance the capacity of Nigerian cryptocurrency crime investigators, The U.S. Mission Nigeria (USMN) said.

On August 25 The USMN tweeted that the training exercise was held in conjunction with the International Computer Hacking 7 IP Attorney Advisers (ICHIP) of Addis & Abuja. The mission also explained what the investigators learned from the exercise.

The training focuses on combating crypto scams and verifying illegal activities such as money laundering. The report on crypto scams in African countries has increased in recent months due to crypto platforms in the African region not being regulated.

Whitestream agency, which is in charge of analysis on the Blockchain network, claim that Lagos Nigeria predominates in crypto scams. The Analysis said that at least four crypto scams have been successfully formalized from whithin the city.

The increase in crypto fraud cases in Nigeria has prompted Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to issue public warnings or advisories that discouraged crypto-related activities. However, with a lot of the warnings or the restrictions imposed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) the rate of Nigerians interest in cryptocurrency keeps increasing.

However, with the help of the training exercise, the officials now hope to reduce the crypto scam in the most popular country in Africa.
